This year’s event was a huge success despite the Government shutdowns causing the National Park Service’s non-involvement. The event, “Kids Can Do It!” 7th Annual Home Front Festival, was held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 11am to 4pm at the Craneway Pavilion, located in the historic Ford Point Building. The 2013 celebration featured interactive activities for family members of all ages, from kids to grandparents, and focused on engaging youth in their Richmond history.

Richmond’s Homefront Festival Survives Government Shutdown
The same ‘can-do’ spirit celebrated at Richmond’s Homefront Festival helped keep the annual event going on Saturday, even though a government shutdown looked like it might send Rosie the Riveter back home. Don Knapp reports:
