Gardeners’ Guild Receives Two First Place Landscaping Awards

Richmond, California – The North Coast Chapter of The California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) has recognized Gardeners’ Guild, a bay area landscape contractor, for its work. Every year the Chapter holds a celebratory dinner to recognize landscaper entries in several categories that include installation and maintenance for both residential and commercial properties.

This year Gardeners’ Guild proudly announces two First Place landscaping awards.  The first recognition was for Sustainable Landscape Management at The Willows Homeowners Association in Sausalito.  The other was for a custom residential landscape installation project in Mill Valley.

The sustainable program at the Willows began in 2010 when Gardeners’ Guild approached the board with a proposal to eliminate the use of chemicals and synthetic fertilizers and replace them with certified organic products.  These natural products boost soil health resulting in more vigorous plants.  The board approved the idea as well as subsequent modifications which included the conversion of existing plants to lower water use types, a conventional irrigation system to low volume components (to save water) and an integrated pest management approach – a more environmentally friendly method of pest control.

An older Craftsman style home in Mill Valley is the setting for the residential landscape construction project.  In the course of making plans to renovate their house, the homeowners realized they needed more outdoor living space.  Gardeners’ Guild performed the installation based on designs by Landscape Architect, Rebecca Coffman, in which a steep slope was renovated with terrace garden areas, stone retaining walls and steps.

“In the six years that the North Coast CLCA has given the sustainable award it’s our fourth recognition in this category”, remarked Gardeners’ Guild President Kevin Davis.  “It’s an honor to be acknowledged by our peers in the landscaping industry – for two projects.  I’m also pleased at the success of our LivingSolutions sustainable program.  We receive a lot of compliments from customers who tell us that since its implementation, their plants look better and are more resilient.”
