Community Update
The AC Transit Board of Directors will be considering proposals for an upcoming fare change. These changes to our current fare schedule are to keep up with escalating operational costs to run the service effectively, and will be guided by the board’s fare policy goals, which are to be fiscally responsible, simple, transparent, and equitable. To keep with these guiding principles for our fare policy, we also want to ensure that the communities within our service area have sufficient opportunity to provide feedback on these proposed changes. We want to be certain that the final product has taken into consideration a variety of perspectives and has been thoughtfully constructed. To aid us in these efforts, we welcome your input as you represent a large constituency, but we are also asking that you pass along the information below through your various communication channels, ie. Newsletter, eBlasts, etc. In particular, please call attention to the various opportunities for public input and our website for additional up-to-date information: http://www.actransit.org/fareproposal
Starting on February 11, 2019, morning weekday BART trains will start one hour later for vital upgrades and critical earthquake safety work…
Roughly 2,900 passengers enter the BART system during that first hour of service. Over 2,400 of those riders begin their trips in the East Bay with 64% disembarking at downtown San Francisco stations.
First hour BART riders surveyed during extensive outreach in the Spring of 2018 guided the development of a robust alternative bus service plan between the 4:00 am- 5:00 am window. The alternative service plan creates 14 new express bus lines that will run from 3:50 am until 5:00 am. This includes 7 Transbay bus routes, 5 East Bay routes and 2 San Francisco/Peninsula routes.
BART is partnering with 8 Bay Area bus agencies to operate this network. All fares will be the same, or less than, an equivalent trip on BART.
