Press Release, Gardener’s Guild, May 23, 2013.
Gardeners’ Guild, a full service landscape contractor, headquartered in Richmond, California, has received the “Small Business of the Year” award by both the SBA (Small Business Administration) and the Contra Costa Business Council.
The Small Business Administration award was presented during a luncheon during Richmond California’s Annual Economic Summit. The Economic Summit, hosted by the Richmond Chamber of Commerce, is a daylong conference focused on how to create and sustain jobs in the city. Gardeners’ Guild was recognized because of its impressive record of job creation among local residents as well as its service to the community.
The Contra Costa Council Awards Luncheon, held at the Concord Hilton honored 14 businesses chosen by each of the county’s Chamber of Commerce for their achievements. Master of Ceremonies, Dan Ashley, News Anchor for KGO-TV, presented the awards. Gardeners’ Guild was recognized for its progressive corporate culture and community service.
The company has been employee owned since 1997 and it one of very few landscape contractors who provide its employees with an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). It benefits to both employees and customers – fostering greater retention and a higher level of accountability. In its selection of Gardeners’ Guild, the Richmond Chamber also noted its community work, which includes involvement with the Chamber, WIB (Work Investment Board) as well as community garden projects.
“We couldn’t be more proud”, remarked Kevin Davis, Gardeners’ Guild’s President and thirty-two year veteran of the company. “It’s a validation of our commitment to our employees, clients and the community. In fact – this award is a tribute to our employees. They are a fantastic group of professionals who go the extra mile for our clients – because it’s the right thing to do.”
