In 1877 Thomas-Swan originated as”Swan the Painter” in San Francisco. Mr. Swan began by painting private homes and commercial buildings, growing to a complete signmaking operation as the demand for custom signage increased. 

Carroll E. Thomas purchased the business in 1951 and incorporated his name into the company’s. Over the next twenty years, Thomas-Swan Sign Co, evolved into a noted commercial sign manufacturing firm with work ranging from wall-lettering, gold leafing, and vehicle and window lettering to the fabrication and installation of raised letters and custom signs.
