Good Morning Richmond,
Happy Monday! To say that this year’s fire season has been unprecedented is a woeful understatement. To quote Gov. Jerry Brown, “We are in uncharted territory.”. Each successive year is more historic then the next with blazes burning from one end of the state to the other. It is a dangerous and deadly season in California but no more so then for the women and men who serve as our first responders. Throughout this year’s fire season 14,000 firefighters – some who have volunteered from as far as New Zealand – have fought to protect California homes and communities. They have served under record breaking conditions and some, like firefighter Jason Campbell from Redding, volunteer firefighter Justine Wyngaarden from Keswick, and Police Chief Roger Moore, also of Redding, have done so even while their own homes burned to the ground. It is because of the everyday selflessness of these women and men that the Richmond Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual First Responder’s BBQ. This year’s BBQ will be held at the Fire Department Training Facility on September 11th, where we will take the opportunity to thank those who serve and protect and to remember and honor the lives lost on this day 17 years ago. In previous years we’ve opened the BBQ to the community with tickets selling for $20/adult and $10/child. This year however, we’d like to invite the community to come and celebrate with us free of charge. Instead, we ask that you bring a donation of any amount. All donations will go toward those first responders and their families whose homes and/or lives have been lost.
In addition to thanking all of our first responders in general, we’d like to use the occasion to make special note our police department. The Richmond Police Department has and continues to do amazing work throughout our community, for which we are so very thankful. If you’d like to attend this year’s First Responder’s BBQ you may do so by clicking the link below. We look forward to seeing you there! |

I believe that success is best shared: bridging ties between corporations, local leaders, and constituents to create a city that will serve a snapshot into the best aspects of the American spirit: diversity, equity, and a drive to innovate. |
