RICHMOND — One of Point Richmond’s grandest landmarks will be in new hands for the first time in more than 30 years.

The Hotel Mac Restaurant, originally opened in 1911 as the Colonial Hotel, has been sold by owners Bill Burnett and Griff Brazil to a buyer named Maureen Na, Burnett said Friday morning.

“Going on 35 years, I think we’ve been here long enough, don’t you?” Burnett said, chuckling.

Burnett and Brazil rescued the hotel in 1978 after a fire gutted the building. The men used old photos to restore the space and retain its renowned, rustic ambience.

The Mac remains a favorite hangout for local business and political elites. In recent months, Police Chief Chris Magnus and city council members and candidates have dined there and attended presentations and celebrations. On election night, the Mac hosted a convivial joint soiree for re-elected Councilman Nat Bates and the “No on N” campaign team, which defeated a proposed tax on sugar-sweetened beverage sales.

Burnett said Na plans a seamless transition, retaining the current staff and menu. The new owner will take the reins the second week of January, Burnett said.
