The Richmond Chamber of Commerce has endorsed the $1 billion plan to modernize the Chevron Richmond Refinery. Now we need your help to show the Planning Commission and City Council how enthusiastically this community supports a project that will create a newer, safer, cleaner refinery that is better for Richmond.
The Chevron Modernization Project is an ambitious and forward-thinking effort to upgrade the refinery and position it to remain an economic engine for our community and our single largest source of tax revenue well into the future. Just as important, it will create 1,000 much-needed construction jobs and 1,300 related jobs for local residents still suffering from the economic recession.
Beyond economic benefits, modernization includes significant safety improvements and new regulatory oversight to ensure the refinery operates safely. It also includes $30 million to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create local green jobs – furthering the city’s commitment to becoming a climate change leader.
Next month, the City’s Planning Commission and City Council are expected to hold hearings and vote on the EIR and conditional use permit. The dates for the meetings are:
July 9 – City of Richmond Planning Commission, Public Hearing & Public Comment Session Location: Kennedy High School, 6:00 pm
July 10 – City of Richmond Planning Commission, Deliberation & Vote Location: Kennedy High School, 6:00 pm
July 22 – City of Richmond City Council, Public Hearing & Public Comment Session Location and time: TBD
July 29 – City of Richmond City Council, Deliberation & Vote Location and time: TBD
The Chamber is urging its members to join us and help demonstrate to our city leaders that, simply put, this is not a project our community can afford to pass up. We are counting a huge turnout to show our city’s leaders that this community supports modernization. Your participation is appreciated!
