YES! You Can Be a Writing Coach and Help Richmond High Students Succeed

RHS_chng-rm-032713-300WriterCoach Connection brings teams of trained volunteers into public middle school and high school English classes to provide one-on-one help to students on their classroom writing assignments.

Coaches strengthen students’ writing skills and help students develop their ideas. With positive encouragement from a caring adult, students become confident and competent writers, and creative and critical thinkers. Students complete and turn in more assignments and teachers report that the writing improves dramatically. Every student in a participating class has a coach because these skills are critical for school, career, and life success.

WriterCoach Connection’s 600 volunteer coaches serve students in Richmond, El Cerrito, Albany, Oakland, and Berkeley. There are currently 75 volunteer writing coaches serving 150+ students at Richmond High. RHS is excited about expanding the program in the 2013-14 school year, starting in September – so we need more volunteer coaches to join the RHS team!

You don’t have to be a writer or teacher to volunteer. We warmly welcome working and retired volunteers, parents, grandparents, college students, and community members of all cultures and backgrounds.

The coaching commitment is 2 hours, 2-3 times per month during the school year – a commitment that offers the satisfaction of helping our Richmond High students develop essential skills and their self-confidence as writers and thinkers.
